Week 3 Post A

 Websites with Design Issues

  1.  Craigslist (San Diego)
The website looks outdated and unorganized. It’s hard to find specific items because there are no clear categories. There are no images or modern design elements, making it less appealing.

The Craigslist website clearly has issues with contrast. The colors are simple and boring, and there is no variation in images or sizes. Visually, it feels overwhelming because everything looks the same. The website uses a lot of tiny text that is difficult to read, as the typography is small and too close together.

Additionally, it is hard to understand what is important at first glance. There is no clear visual hierarchy, making it unsure where to start. This lack of structure makes the website tricky to navigate and frustrating to use. Overall, Craigslist does not provide a user-friendly experience and could benefit from a more modern and organized design.

Craigslist prioritizes functionality over aesthetics, offering a straightforward platform that may not meet the expectations of users accustomed to contemporary web designs.

Suggested Improvements

Modernize the Interface: Updating the design with contemporary fonts, colors, and spacing can enhance user engagement.

Enhance Navigation: Implementing clear categories and subcategories with dropdown menus can streamline the user journey.

Incorporate Visual Elements: Adding relevant icons or images can break the monotony and guide users more effectively.

2. Yale School of Art Website

The design is very basic and looks unfinished. It doesn’t follow a standard layout, making it confusing to navigate. The colors and fonts don’t look professional.

The  website uses a mix of colors and backgrounds,  making text hard to read.  This inconsistent contrast  strain the eyes and make navigation frustrating, dont provide clarity and accessibility.

On this website, there’s little distinction between headings, subheadings, and body text, making it hard to know where to start. Without clear visual cues, I can  feel lost and overwhelmed by the layout.

While the website’s design may reflect the school’s artistic identity, it lacks the clarity and structure needed for a smooth user experience. By improving proximity, contrast, hierarchy, and typography, the site could maintain its creative essence while also being more accessible and user-friendly. A balance between artistic expression and usability would enhance both engagement and functionality.

Suggested Improvements

Simplify the Design: Reducing visual clutter and organizing content can improve readability and user experience.

Standardize Navigation: Implementing a consistent navigation menu can help users find information more efficiently.

Enhance Accessibility: Adjusting color contrasts and increasing font sizes can make the site more accessible to a broader audience.

  1. You couldn’t have put it in better words that I! You out exactly what I was thinking into words. Their is not distinguish in which holds more value and what I should be darting my eyes at first when looking at the Craigslist page. When you look at their page, it all blends in together. Definitely not in a good way.
